Today, June 29:
California
- Convenience Voting bill, S 970 is scheduled for a second reading on the Assembly floor today. For at least one general election between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2016, the secretary of state–in partnership with the county elections officials, the University of California, and the California State University–may establish pre-Election Day voting polling places on two college campuses in the state, one University of California that has at least 20,000 registered voters and one California State University that has at least 13,000 registered voters on campus. Each college campus would serve as the polling place for any precinct in the county’s jurisdiction.
- Voter Registration Drive bill, A 2101 is scheduled for a hearing today in the Senate Public Safety Committee.A person that is guilty of engaging in prohibited voter registration activities may be prohibited prohibited from receiving money or other valuable consideration for assisting another person to register to vote by receiving the completed affidavit of registration. The bill also would ban the person from receiving compensation for collecting signatures for an initiative or petition.
- Election Day Registration bill, A 1531 is scheduled to be heard by the Senate Elections, Reapportionment and Constitutional Amendments Committee in the Rose Ann Vuich Hearing Room at 1:30 p.m. PST. This bill provides for same day registration by mail ballots during the early voting period or by provisional ballot if registering on Election Day. The bill also allow qualified citizens to register or reregister to vote, beginning 14 days before Election, through Election Day.
Pennsylvania
- Felon Voting Rights bill, H 1072 is scheduled to be heard on the House floor today. This bill provides released prisoners with voter registration materials. The Department of Corrections would provide registration materials to administrators of each institution.
