Today, the Oregon State Senate adopted HB 2177, a bill that would automatically register Oregonians to vote after they have interacted with the Department of Transportation. The bill is now heading to Governor Kate Brown’s desk.

Project Vote applauds the political leaders of Oregon for appreciating the important principle that voter registration should be the responsibility of the government and not just individual voters. This principle has been implemented with great success in many of the leading democracies of the world. It is time that it be put into practice in this one.
