Students Challenge New Jersey Voter Registration Law

Project Vote board member and Rutgers professor of law, Frank Askin and Kinoy-Stavis Public Interest Fellow, Yael Bromberg write on the student-driven effort to bring Election Day Registration to New Jersey.

The Rutgers University Student Assembly is lead plaintiff for a legal challenge of N.J. registration law that they say “is a denial of the right to vote guaranteed by the New Jersey Constitution.”

The groups are calling for the state to join the nine other states and the District of Columbia in providing Election Day registration to its eligible citizens, a policy that would greatly benefit the states’ highly mobile young adult population.
