(AUSTIN, Texas) Southwest Key Programs and Project Vote invite the Austin community to early vote this Friday and have their voices included in this historic election. Travis County elections will be supplying early vote machines. Families are encouraged to attend, bring the kids, and enjoy food and a youth slam poetry contest. Travis County voters may vote at any early voting location.

“Everyone knows that Texas has some of the lowest voter registration and voting rates in the country, and we are trying to change that,” says Southwest Key CEO Dr. Juan Sanchez. “Civic participation is the foundation of community building. We helped nearly 650 local residents to register this cycle and we want to see them and their families this Friday for early vote.”

Southwest Key Programs’ partner for the event is Project Vote, a national voting rights organization with a strong presence in Texas. In addition to working to ensure integrity in election administration, Project Vote sued the state this year around its burdensome community voter registration rules. Project Vote works to mobilize under-represented voters.

“All signs show this is going to be another popular election and every vote is important,” says Project Vote Latino Outreach Coordinator and Spokesperson Viviana Hurtado. “We encourage everyone to get involved in voting and have their voices heard. Our democracy works best when every American participates.”
