Convenience Voting bill, A 2154 is scheduled to be read a third time on the Senate floor today. This bill permits a local elections official to allow voters to apply for vote-by-mail ballots by telephone. To do so, the applicant must provide personal identifying information that matches the information contained on the applicant’s affidavit of registration, including first and last name, home address, and date of birth. The applicant’s signature is not required for applications received by telephone. Except as otherwise provided, all provisions governing written applications for VBM ballots apply to applications for VBM ballots made by telephone.
Mail Voting bill, A 1681 is scheduled to be read a third time on the Senate floor today. This bill creates a vote-by-mail pilot program in Yolo County, California whereby voters may cast mail ballots in local elections. Any election conducted by mail before 2014 must be assessed and reported to the Legislature and the secretary of state.
Conduct of Elections bill, A 2616 is scheduled to be read a third time on the Senate floor today. This bill would require county election officials to permit a vote by mail voter to find out whether his vote had been counted via the county’s Web site or a toll free phone number. A former version of the bill charged the Secretary of State’s office with this procedure.
