I’ve got a challenge for you.

CREDO Mobile has offered Project Vote and our partner, Dēmos, an $80,000 matching grant in support of our work to enforce the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) in North Carolina.

You read that right: CREDO will match all funds up to $80,000 donated to support this work through July 1, 2014. Please, donate to Project Vote today.

The Public Agency Voter Registration Program makes sure that meaningful voter registration assistance is provided by state public assistance agencies to individuals when they apply for or renew benefits like SNAP (food stamps), as required by the NVRA.

Since 2006, the Program has ensured that more than 2.5 million citizens in states like Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, Colorado, and New Mexico were able to submit voter registration applications.

With your help—and the funds matched by CREDO—Project Vote can help make sure North Carolinians receive the voter registration assistance they deserve: the voter registration assistance that is required by federal law.

In 2012, we won a landmark decision in Georgia resulting in the state’s public agencies collecting 94,807 voter registration applications between May 2012 and April 2014; before our intervention, Georgia’s agencies collected only 22,000 voter registration applications in all of 2007-2008.

This short video shows you better than I can tell you the impact this work has had on the lives of real people in Georgia:

In 2014, Project Vote and Dēmos are working to maintain and increase compliance with the requirements of the NVRA in states across the country, including North Carolina.

North Carolina voluntarily agreed to improve and work on NVRA compliance by its state public assistance agencies starting in 2006, and we saw substantial improvements in voter registration numbers. But since 2012, registrations have dropped. In the shadow of the country’s worst voter suppression law, the fight to close the gaps in voter registration and democratic participation to create momentum for permanent pro-voter change is more important than ever.

With your help, Project Vote and Dēmos will redouble our efforts in North Carolina. This work requires substantial resources in terms of field investigation, and likely litigation to restore compliance. The success we’ve seen in Georgia can be replicated, but it will take a commitment from you.

These are state-by-state fights with national implications.

This work provides us a unique opportunity to reach millions of low-income Americans around the nation.

And this matching challenge provides you a unique opportunity to double your impact

This year marks the 20th anniversary of Project Vote – 20 years of making sure every eligible American citizen can register, vote, and cast a ballot that counts. If you’ve never given before, this is the time to step off the sidelines and declare your investment in this very important work. Again, CREDO will match all donations, up to $80,000, received by July 1, 2014.

In honor of our 20th anniversary, please take a minute and donate $20 or more to help us continue to work toward a democracy that works for everyone.
