President Obama said voting rights are under attack and condemned anti-voting measures at partisan at Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network conference today.

“The stark and simple truth is this — the right to vote is threatened today — in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act became law nearly five decades ago,” said Obama.

The president referenced the United States Supreme Court’s 2013 decision to strip away Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and the subsequent passage of restrictive voting measures, such as voter ID and early voting cut-backs.

“We’re not going to let voter suppression go unchallenged,” he said.
