A U.S. Election Assistance Commission report says the number of registered voters in Indiana has increased since the state came into compliance with a federal voting law.
The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 allows people to register to vote or update their information when applying for a driver’s license or registering for other social services.

Sarah Brannon is a director with Project Vote, the organization that filed the suit with the Indiana State NAACP and the ACLU of Indiana.

“We think by encouraging registration and giving people an easy opportunity to register, more people register, and we hope more people participate,” says Brannon.

More than 53,000 low-income Hoosiers have registered to vote since the federal lawsuit was settled in 2011. READ MORE
