TALLAHASSEE — A coalition of voting groups plan to file a lawsuit tomorrow over Gov. Rick Scott’s non-citizen voting purge that has set off a dispute between the state and the Obama administration.

Scott’s Department of State began working on a system to remove non-citizens who were incorrectly registered to vote from the voting rolls as early as last fall. But the system has proved problematic and many local supervisors of elections said a list of 2,600 that was given to them contained many naturalized citizens.

Of the list, 107 non-citizens have been confirmed.

The saga has resulted in the Scott administration suing the Department of Homeland Security for access to an immigration database, and the U.S. Department of Justice suing the state over federal voting rights.

The ACLU of Florida has already filed a suit against the state over the issue.

The groups involved in the new suit include Project, Fair Elections Legal Network, LatinoJustice PRLDEF, and Project Vote. They are holding a press conference call at 12:30 p.m. tomorrow to discuss the suit. READ MORE
